What is a Bank Code?

Published 03/01/2009 04.01 PM   |    Updated 07/06/2011 11.26 AM

A Bank Code is a series of numbers which is used to identify banks around the world. It is equivalent to Australia's 'BSB' code, and can be between 3 and 23 digits depending on the country of the bank and the type of code it is.
A Bank Code may be known as:

  • BSB
  • SWIFT Code
  • BIC (Bank Identification Code)
  • CHIPS (Clearing House Inter-Bank Payment System) – US and Canada only
  • NCC (National Clearing Code)
  • BSC (Bank Sort Code)
  • IFSC (Indian Financial System Code)

You should obtain the Bank Code from your recipient, or you can search for it in the 'Recipient details' page of the NetBank International Money Transfer.

Please note: do not enter spaces or hyphens when entering the Bank Code in NetBank
